Key leadership 2 Distinction

Librarian

On Wednesday lunchtime I went to the Library with Brianna. We put heaps and heaps of books away; there were so many! We had lots of people in the Library on Wednesday even though it was warm outside. We had lots of returns and renewals. I scanned the books and Brianna typed in the names and opened the books ready for me to scan. I like scanning because I get to use the new scanner. I showed the CARE values by always showing up to my role . I showed the Leadership trait of Trustworthy because Mrs Ward the Librarian trusts that I will turn up.

Leadership in the community 2 Distinction

Student Council

At Student council. We decided on more information about ice cream day. We are going to be serving it in a ice cream cup and will come with a spoon. We decided on $1 or $2 on an ice cream and is still yet to be finalized. I personally thought it would be a good idea to sell them as $1 for 1 scoop $2 for 2 scoops. We decided that the Year 6's Student Council representatives should make an order form on a Google doc. They will go around the classes and ask who will buy it and what flavor. I showed the CARE values by always showing up and contributing to a group discussion.  I showed the Leadership trait of Active Thinker because when I came up with an idea I shared it with the group.

He looks up his father's name in the phone book and calls the number but then something happens, something that will change his life... Then Ben goes into town to look for hi father. Ben runs into his mother when he is walking down the road. She gets angry and wants him to go home then at the train station he runs into a mysterious old lady... if  you want to know more you'll have to read the book.

Homelearning Challenge 3 Distinction.

This is my 3rd Home learning challenge for my Distinction badge. I chose this challenge because I enjoy make slides and explaining. For this challenge I had to create a slide telling people about how Oakland's Students show the CARE values. I chose to pick one from each value C A R E and apply it to each section. Each section had a C A R E value.

I hope you enjoy reading this slide.

Key Leadership 1 Distinction.

On Wednesday I went to the Library as my job as a Librarian. The Library opened as our school had it's Oakland's School open day. The day timetable changed because of this so morning tea and lunch time where pushed back to 10:30 and 12pm . The library opened at 12:15. We didn't have many people come in because they thought it was closed. We scanned not many books. I found a new series to read they are the Cherub series by Robert Muchamore. There are 29 books in the series. I also found another series by Brian Selznick called Wonderstruck and The Invention of Hugo Cabret. I showed the CARE values by turning up and I also showed the leadership traits by using my active thinking by extending my knowledge and trying new books.

Term 2 Novel Study.

This term I have been reading and studying the novel Silver stream by Jillian Sullivan.

I found this novel interesting  because Lorna's Mother went to camp. Lorna is a strong brave girl that will risk her life to help those in need. Lorna replaced Dana's place in the camp because Dana was pregnant. Lorna made a new friend called Rebekah . Rebekah and Lorna escaped the camp but then disaster struck...
During the novel I had to complete a thinking map which shows that I can classify how the author has shown the theme of the book.

National Standard this covers.

  • Year 7/8  Standard
    • I can identify and evaluate the way writers’ use language and ideas to suit their purpose and I can use my growing wide range of academic and content-specific vocabulary to understand texts.

Overall I would give this novel a rating of  8/10 and I would / would not  recommend it to others to read because……………...because…………

Leadership in the community 1 for Distinction Badge.

Monday July 3rd 2017 .

Today I helped Mr Muller out by helping to set up the hall for the full school assembly. I helped out by putting out the chairs for the seniors , guests , house captains and student leaders. I was one of the two helpers he had. After lunch we did R3 and then went to assembly. At assembly I received my Leadership Excellence Badge. After the awards Choir sang. We only had time for 1 song so we sang Purea Nei. I showed the CARE values by aiming for excellence in all learning areas and I showed Integrity and Trustworthy by helping out to set up. I also showed goal focused by achieving my badge.

Current Events Term 2, 2017

WALT: I can successfully research a current event.
Here is a link to our online modelling book for this unit of learning.

The National Standard that I have been aiming for during this unit of learning is:

  • Year 7/8: I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.

Each week we have read a short text about a current event/ topic. We then formed questions based on what we had read.  After this we researched the answers to our questions and finally we gave our opinions on what we had found out.

Here is some evidence of my learning.

Describe Map One Link to map

Describe map Two Link to map

My Next Step is to continue to  apply the reading and  research skills that I have learned in a variety of other areas.
