This is my Visual Language Assessment . On CANVA we had to design something to do with Leadership. I chose a trifold brocher because I think they look nice and are easy to make.

Current Events Term 1
Current Events Term 1
In Current Events I covered these topics:
- The design of the Halswell Skate Park and I made a submission to the council.
- Donald Trump’s Refugee Plan
- Christchurch Earth Memorial
- The new Ngā Puna Wai Sports Facility
- The Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan with a submission to the council.
My favourite topic was The Halswell Skate Park because I would like my ideas to be incorporated into the design so when I go there I can say I helped to design it.
Here is a link to my learning on the Red Zone and Avon River Regeneration Plan.
The Reading National Standards I have achieved are
- Year 7 and 8
- Identifying and resolving issues that come from competing information in texts
gathering, evaluating, and synthesising information across a small range of texts - I can use appropriate skills and technologies to find and use a range of texts for specific purposes.
Term 1 Novel Study
Term 1 Novel Study
This term I have been reading and studying the novel Fire in the sky by Shirley Corlett
I found this novel quite boring at first but then when the eruption took place it was quite interesting and exciting. Overall I quite enjoyed this book.
During the novel I had to complete two major assessment tasks. The first is an Explain Map which shows the consequences of a major event in the book. The second was a Describe++ Map (Inference map) which shows I how I have connected prior knowledge and other experiences to what I have been reading to make an inference.
- Link to Explain Map Explain Effects Map.
- Link to Inference Map Inference Map .
National Standard this covers.
- Year 7/8 Standard
- using several pieces of information to make inferences
using their prior knowledge, along with information in the text, to interpret abstract ideas, complex plots, and sophisticated themes - I can use a range of strategies, such as inferring, to work out more complex words.

Home learning Challenge #5
I made this cake as my final Home learning Challenge . It is 2 chocolate cakes with cream & strawberry jam in the middle . On top is cream with chocolate sprinkles . It was delicious . I made this because I chose to do design your own challenge.

On Tuesday I went to the Library as usual. I enjoy being a Librarian because I like being on the computer , scanning the books , returning the books & putting the books away . I look forward to next term being a Librarian because next term I am the head Librarian. That means I write on the board who is on Library today. I showed the Leadership CARE VALUES because I contributed to my role by getting involved and i attend all the time.

Leadership in the Community 4
This week the Year 7s had camp so unfortunately we couldn't go to Choir but instead on Tuesday the school had a photo shoot for a cookbook. We were invited into the cookbook because Oaklands School drew pictures and sent them to Kaikoura in the big Kaikoura earthquake . I enjoyed it because we cooked beetroot relish and put them on plain crackers . It was delicious. I had lots of fun doing this because I like cooking and helping others. I showed the Leadership CARE VALUES because I listened to the photographer.
Key Leadership 4
Last Tuesday I went to the Library and did my job as a Librarian . Put the books away , scanned books & had computer issues that we had to fix If you scanned a book it would not come up underneath the persons name . That was an issue but we got it sorted and carried on. I look forward to next Tuesday. I showed the Leadership CARE VALUES because I contributed to my role by getting involved and aiming for excellence.
Leadership in the Community 3
At Choir today we sang a variety of different songs. Including Africa , Winter wonderland & many more . The thing I like about Choir is that its just fun and I like singing in groups . I look forward to next week .
I showed the Leadership CARE VALUES because I tried my best and I contributed to what songs we should sing.
